The inspiration for this project comes from the deeper spiritual and cultural layers of Chinese New Year, where celebration exists alongside ancestral remembrance. The Yingge dance represents communal strength and protection, using rhythmic movement and bold symbolism to drive away misfortune and welcome renewal. Traditional Chinese puppetry reflects the passing down of stories, craftsmanship, and identity across generations, especially during times of family reunion. The folklore of corpse driving speaks to the belief that even in death, one must return home, reinforcing themes of belonging and ancestral connection. Together, these traditions reveal Chinese New Year as a moment of continuity between the living and the departed, the past and the present.
